"If we are to build a future in which all children have access to the opportunities they deserve, every hour in the classroom must be used effectively."

PROBLEMS in the provincial education departments that resulted in some schools not receiving textbooks in the first five months of the school year were a disgrace, the DA said

Democratic Alliance basic education spokeswoman Annette Lovemore said she would ask Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga questions about this.

"Minister Motshekga must take responsibility for ensuring that teachers and learners are equipped with the necessary resources," she said.

Three areas in Free State had received no books, while some Limpopo schools had received the wrong books.

"In KwaZulu-Natal, poor schools are having to spend thousands on photocopying books," Lovemore said. "If we are to build a future in which all children have access to the opportunities they deserve, every hour in the classroom must be used effectively."
