Former Limpopo MEC George Phadagi dies

FORMER Limpopo MEC for public works, safety and security George Phadagi, who was left out when premier Cassel Mathale reshuffled his cabinet this year, has died.

Phadagi, 60, pictured, died yesterday at the Pretoria Medi-Clinic.

Premier Mathale's spokesperson Mashadi Mathosa said the government was saddened by the death of Phadagi, who had served in Mathale's cabinet as MEC for four years.

"Premier Mathale extends his condolences to the family of Phadagi. He had committed his life to serving all the people of the province. He was a passionate teacher, a dedicated member of the African National Congress and an excellent leader," saidMathosa.

Between 2009 and 2012 Phadagi served as a member of the executive council in Limpopo, leading the department of public works and later added the department of safety and security.
