'Girl and her female relative drugged, raped youth'

Mentally disabled teen's alleged rapist and relative in court. Cops say the case is similar to three other unresolved cases which involved women drugging and raping men

A WOMAN and a teenage girl appeared briefly in the Protea Magistrate's Court in Soweto yesterday for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old mentally disabled youth.

The case was postponed to May 18 to allow for an assessment of the victim.

The teenager, 17, faces a charge of rape and her 26-year-old relative a charge of sexual assault.

They were arrested on April 21, after six days on the run.

Police suspect that the boy was drugged.

At a previous court appearance, the older woman was granted bail of R1,000. The minor was released into the custody of her parents.

"After the rape, the boy told his granny what happened and she immediately came to police," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said earlier.

He said the rape was similar to three other unresolved cases which involved women drugging and raping men.

The 17-year-old teenager would face full prosecution and would appear in court with her relative, the court heard.

Outside court, the two covered their faces with a blanket to avoid local residents and journalists.

A small group of people ran after them shouting: "They must pay. They must face the law".

The teenager, the woman and their relatives got into a car and left without speaking to anyone.

The boy's grandmother said he was back at school and that the family was more protective of him after what had happened.
