THE ANC is said to be seeking a "political solution" in the disciplinary case against two of its MPs - Ben Turok and Gloria Borman.
Sowetan understands that fellow ANC MPs have raised concerns about the disciplinary hearing.
Veteran MP Turok and his colleague Borman were charged by the ANC for failing to vote for the Protection of State Information Bill when it was presented in parliament last year.
Turok walked out before the vote started while Borman withheld her vote.
Their "no-vote" stance raised tempers within the ANC caucus, with some MPs demanding that action be taken against them.
Yesterday, ANC national disciplinary committee (NDC) chairman Derek Hanekom said the hearings have been postponed until further notice.
He said the two's representatives have requested an opportunity to discuss the charges with the chief national presenter.
"These discussions are now under way and the NDC will await the outcome thereof," Hanekom said.
Two weeks ago, ANC Military Veterans president Sandi Sejake came out in support of Turok.
Other MPs also joined Sejake in asking the ANC to rethink its decision to charge the two.
They are concerned that the ANC will send an unfortunate message to party structures by dragging Turok and Borman to a hearing.
A senior party member told Sowetan last night that efforts were being made for the ANC not to proceed with the hearing. "A disciplinary hearing sometimes achieves the opposite, and that is why we are appealing to the ANC to rethink this matter."
