Earlier this year, enraged lover Moeketsi Tau hung his 4-year-old son Kgotso in Sunrise near Rustenburg, North West.

In Bapong village near Brits, North West, Charles Moagi stabbed his son Oratile, 2, daughter Lesedi, 9, and their mother Mavis Molebatsi to death.

In February, Evans Mpanyane strangled his wife Connie and their two children Joy and Priscilla, also in North West.

After 13 years with the mother of his four children, Michael Letebele of Koster, North West, began questioning whether they were indeed his. And in a moment of lunacy, he reportedly grabbed his 3-year-old son Gontse by the ankle and mercilessly slammed his head on the ground. The child died instantly after his skull cracked.

In Cape Town, a man killed his wife, two children and his niece and later tried to commit suicide by drinking battery acid. But he survived.

Donald Makhura of Pretoria was sentenced to two life terms in January for killing his daughter Thabang and her friend Martin Ndlhela in Mamelodi West.

A woman from the Eastern Cape was hacked to death, allegedly by her partner, in Ncambedlana, Mthatha, in January. According to the police, the couple had a quarrel which turned violent. The woman's 48-year-old partner was arrested.

In January, a 25-year-old Soweto man shot dead his estranged wife in the presence of their six-month-old baby. He then turned the gun on himself at her home in Zondi.
