DEPARTMENTAL head of obstetrics at the Dora Nginza Hospital in Port Elisabeth has hailed the drop in maternal deaths at the hospital after the release of the findings of a study on maternal deaths.
The report, compiled by the National Committee for Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths (NCCEMD), found the maternal death rate of Eastern Cape was halved between 2002 and 2007.
Obstetrics unit head at Dora Nginza Hospital Dr Mfundo Mbenge said rigorous training of staff and management was one of the key reasons for success in the area. He said more work had to be done by the staff.
