A homeless 12-year-old boy has allegedly been raped by an official of the trade union Solidarity’s charity arm.

The child used his cellphone to record the rape, which took place outside Gordon’s Bay in a caravan donated by the Helping Hand Fund to help the child’s destitute parents, The New Age reported.

Colonel Andre Taut told the daily newspaper that the 60-year-old man was arrested on Monday and was charged with rape.

He appeared in The Strand Magistrate’s on Wednesday.

The union had since cut ties with him, describing him as a volunteer worker.
