Cops arrest three
A 21-year-old woman, her mother and a bogus doctor have been arrested for illegal abortion and concealment of birth in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Friday.
Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the three were arrested on Thursday, after a newborn baby was found dead wrapped in a plastic bag behind a toilet.
The young mother fell sick, and was taken to hospital after giving birth.
It was suspected that she drank a concoction to abort the baby.
Her mother, 45, and a bogus Ugandan doctor, 30, who gave her the drink, were arrested.
They are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
