THERE are less than 48 hours before the January transfer window closes tomorrow, and the two biggest possible moves in South African football could be finalised on deadline day.

When Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza unveiled Luis Boa Morte as a Buccaneer this week, the Iron Duke also left a hint of "to be continued" when he said the club would be bringing in another key player in a few days.

Sifiso Myeni of Wits is believed to be that player, while Thandani Ntshumayelo from Supersport United is also a possibility. The latter's move to Pirates is more likely, with Sameehg Doutie having already gone to the former Absa Premiership champions in what is supposed to be a swap deal.

"I've yet to see a contract between Myeni and Orlando Pirates, for now he is still a Wits player," said George Mogotsi yesterday.

Chiefs are also battling to convince their key man Siphiwe Tshabalala to stay long-term, with a contract that could have a get-out clause in June the only resolution.

Tshabalala was given until last Friday to think about his future with the Amakhosi, but the Bafana midfielder is yet to commit to a new contract with the Glamour Boys. Reports at the weekend suggested Tshabalala will sign a three-year deal with Chiefs this week after being snubbed by English Championship side Crystal Palace.

Palace do not have the budget to recruit new players, but are set to return in June for Tshabalala's signature.

Chiefs had more than 10 players due to be out of contract in six months' time and Tshabalala, along with skipper Itumeleng Khune, were among them.

While Khune and a few others have penned new deals, Tshabalala's request for more time has cast doubts over his commitment to the club. Tshabalala wants a career move as well as a bit more money. And the club will not stand in the way of Tshabalala moving.

However, Amakhosi will want a big financial boost if they are to lose one of their best players. At the moment no deal promises that, with a move in June the better approach for Chiefs, but not necessarily the player.
