A Roman Catholic priest has been stabbed to death at his home in Mbonambi, the KwaZulu-Natal public safety department said on Tuesday.
Spokesman Kwanele Ncalane said Father Senzo Mbokazi, 35, was found dead at his home on Sunday.
Worshippers waiting for him to conduct morning mass found him tied up and naked at home with stab wounds to the side of his face and neck.
Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu expressed shock.
"I am deeply appalled by such revolting behaviour by these hooligans. Such killings are barbaric and senseless," he said in a statement.
