Sangoma launches unique dice to help choose lucky numbers

But is careful not to offer any guarantees you will win

A South African Sangoma has developed a unique, 50-sided dice used to seek assistance from ancestors in choosing lucky numbers for lotteries and games.

Sangoma Dice(tm) was conceived by healer and Sangoma, n'wamdun'wazi (Mjaji Flora Hlungwani) from Josefa, a rural African village in far northern Limpopo province.

A Sangoma is an African traditional healer who, in addition to healing, is believed by some cultures to be able to channel guidance from ancestors in the spirit world. Hlungwani has based the Sangoma Dice on this belief and has developed a set of simple instructions to help seek the wisdom of ancestors.

The dice is a little larger than a golf ball and opens into two halves. "By opening the dice and adding sand from your family's land or something that reminds you of your ancestors, then using a feather and animal bone, you can seek to access your ancestors' guidance.

"While throwing the dice with the feather and animal bone, ask your ancestors for your lucky numbers. Should the bone and feather be pointing in the same direction, favour may be on your side," Hlungwani explains.

The company which produces Sangoma Dice, WantimaMahlori Investment CC, said in a statement that there was no guarantee of winning simply by using the dice.

"What you do with the dice is your choice and obviously we can't guarantee that you will win a lottery or predict scores. But, it does offer a way to try to access the wisdom of the ancestors in choosing lucky numbers. Even if you don't believe in following the ritual prescribed by Hlungwani, it offers you and your children a simple way to generate random numbers by rolling the dice."

The company added that it neither encouraged, nor promoted gambling.

Hlungwani and her family are partners in WantimaMahlori Investment CC.

The Sangoma dice comes in the six colours of the SA flag and is available at Tourvest stores and other selected retailers. It retails at between R40 and R50.
