THE PAC wants the government to honour the man who served the longest prison term on Robben Island, Jafta Masemola.
The PAC's Military Veterans Association wants the Paul Kruger statue in Tshwane's Church Square to be removed and the square to be renamed after the late former Robben Island prisoner.
The PAC also wants Church Street in Tshwane to be renamed after Masemola.
The PAC stalwart was the first person under apartheid to be sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island. In 1963 he and 14 other PAC activists were charged with conspiracy to commit sabotage.
Masemola was the longest serving political prisoner in modern history. He spent 28 years on Robben Island.
He died in a mysterious car accident in April 1990. Neither the truck that crashed with his car, nor its driver has been located.
The spokesperson for the committee that is organising the renaming, Xoli Tyamzashe, yesterday said they were going to meet the Department of Arts and Culture to discuss their proposal.
"This will be a great honour to one of the first group of six prisoners sentenced to life by the apartheid regime in 1962 and longest serving political prisoner on Robben Island," he said.
