SA beauty off to Miss World event

HOPEFUL: Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane
HOPEFUL: Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane

MISS South Africa Bokang Montjane is jetting off to London this weekend to compete in the Miss World beauty pageant on November 5.

She will be the second woman in the world to compete in all of the "Big Four" pageants - Miss Earth, Miss International, Miss World and Miss Universe - after Cynthia Kanema of Zambia.

The 24-year-old beauty is determined not only to win the Miss World, which happens to be celebrating its 60th anniversary, but to also shed some light on issues affecting young African women.

This South African beauty, who stands 1.75 metres tall, is fresh from participating in last month's Miss Universe that was held in Brazil .

"This is my last beauty pageant and I just want to have fun and enjoy myself. I have all my heart and soul on the top spot. It will be a good platform to showcase what South Africa is all about," she said.

And Montjane wants the Miss World title more so than the Miss Universe crown.

"Miss World is more for someone who has a heart for people. It is more for me because I am more of a philanthropic type," said Montjane, who started competing in beauty pageants in her early teens. She will wear an evening gown designed by fashion designer extraordinaire JJ Schoeman on the night.

The gown has a rich ivory colour with a body-hugging bodice that emphasises her beautiful long neck and shoulders. The skirt section of the dress has multiple layers of pure silk chiffon and the intricately-draped bodice is hand-beaded. Montjane jets out to London on Sunday.
