AN OLD shipping container, which has been converted into a library, will be delivered to a school in Dimbaza outside Cape Town today.

The library, which cost R120000 to renovate, will be handed over to Nobuntu Senior Primary School as part of a poverty eradication initiative supported by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

"The portable, versatile and securely recycled containers provide instant and vital infrastructure," said Tim Smith, director of the NGO Breadline Africa, which is responsible for the project.

The initiative has already delivered 10 container libraries across South Africa.

Two other schools in Eastern Cape - the Qunu Junior School in Nobuntu and Nkwenkwezi Primary in Mvezo - will also receive container libraries in October.
