Support for triplets

"Children are a gift from God and as a caring government we are not only interested in those who are eligible to vote"

A 33-YEAR-OLD mother of triplets, who appealed for help to raise her children three weeks ago, could not believe her blessings yesterday when Vhembe district executive mayor Florence Dzhombere came to her aid.

Dzhombere yesterday donated food parcels and clothes for the three children, which will be sufficient to last them for three years.

A smiling Livhuwani Phungo and her husband Themba received the goods yesterday at their family home.

Dzhombere said the goods were a donation from service providers who have been doing business with the municipality.

"Children are a gift from God and as a caring government we are not only interested in those who are eligible to vote.

"That is why we have an early childhood programme," Dzhombere said.

She praised engineer Stanley Makondo of Khuvutlu Engineers, one of the sponsors, for ploughing back into the community.

Makondo said his company would continue to support the children in the future and would visit the family from time to time.

"I did not know that there were people who think of other people in the way the mayor and the businesspeople have done," Phungo said.

Her husband. who worked as a security guard, earning "a pittance" and was equally grateful for the gifts they received.
