LIMPOPO MEC for health and social development Dikeledi Magadzi says she is committed to intensifying the war on HIV and Aids on farms in the province

The fight against the disease will be in the spotlight since Magadzi will be joined by Deputy Minister of Health Gwen Ramokgopa to extend the HIV counselling and testing campaign to farming communities this weekend.

They will visit ZZ2 farms near Mooketsi to talk to farmworkers about the importance of knowing their status.

The main objective of the campaign is to encourage farmers, farmworkers and dwellers to know their status to enable them to make informed choices about their reproductive health and to take precautionary measures to eliminate risks andprevent diseases.

Magadzi said the health department and its partners, AGRI-Aids and the Aurum Institute, among others, would conduct free HIV tests, screening for tuberculosis and cervical cancer and immunise children.

"We want to make sure that our people know their health status, irrespective of where they live and work," Magadzi said.

She said they had observed that farmworkers did not visit health facilities "even for obvious things such as immunisation.

"We have a responsibility to take services to them because we are serious about providing a healthy life for all our people," she said.
