THE R25 billion Gautrain has hit a snag for the second time in as many weeks, raising questions about the train service's reliability.

Yesterday, services between Centurion and Hatfield in Pretoria were suspended for the second time due to cable theft.

Rosebank to Sandton was also temporarily suspended due to "technical issues".

Bombela spokesperson Errol Braithwaite said: "This incident took place in a different location to that of last week, but unfortunately the same stations were affected. As before, an emergency bus service was implemented to transport passengers. Full train services were restored by 2pm."

The DA expressed concerns about the Gautrain again suspending its services.

DA spokesperson Neil Campbell, said the excuse that cable theft is to blame rings hollow. "This sub-standard service belittles the Gauteng taxpayer who has already poured R30billion into this programme."
