Man charged with raping girls, 11 and 13

The girls are his wife's nieces

A 33-YEAR-OLD man accused of raping two children will appear before a Bloemfontein magistrate today for a formal bail application.

The man allegedly raped his wife's nieces on June 17. The two girls are aged 11 and 13. They had allegedly been visiting their aunt in Bloemspruit.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mbabo said the children's aunt left for work early the following day and that was when the man pounced on the young girls.

"The children were sleeping on the floor while their aunt and her husband slept on the bed. In the morning the aunt left for work at about eight o'clock and the husband instructed the victims to fold the blankets under which they were lying.

"The girls started to get cold and he told them to join him on the bed. He sent the 11-year-old girl to go make him tea in the kitchen. He started forcing himself on the 13-year-old after having sent the other girl to the shop to buy chips for herself," Mbambo said.

"When the 11-year-old came back from the shop he sent the 13-year-old victim to the shop to buy some tobacco for him.

"After she had left he started to rape the 11-year-old."

The girls reportedly suffered serious injuries and were treated at a hospital.

"The victims sustained injuries to their genitals," Mbambo said.. "He gave each of the victims one rand, telling them to keep quiet and tell no-one about their little secret.

"He promised them more money in exchange for their silence. But they told their mother and a case of rape was opened at the Bloemspruit police station. He was arrested the next day."
