FORMER apartheid defence minister General Magnus Malan has died.
Malan, pictured, died yesterday morning at his home in Cape Town.
Malan, 81, is said to have died of heart failure.
Malan served as minister of defence from 1980 to 1991, an appointment that followed a long military career stretching back to the 1950s in the SA Defence Force.
He retired from politics in 1993 and is survived by his wife Margot, two sons and a daughter.
