THE Kliptown Youth Programme is thriving since receiving a donation of solar-panel computers by teacher Tamin-Lee Connolly.
Connolly, based in Dubai, has sponsored 5000 computers for African countries.
"So far I have done South Africa - Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal - and Swaziland," she says.
She says 290 laptops have been delivered to the Kliptown Youth Programme and other parts of the country.
IT assistant Collen Tshazi says the laptops help children with school work.
"Each child gets a computer to keep at home and use for school. They only bring them to the centre to be recharged," Tshazi says.
Connolly will also provide basic training, software and the Internet to pupils to increase their chances of continued higher education.
She says as teacher it is difficult to watch children's education suffer when something can be done about it.
"Research to get funds took me three years. There is so much improvement to be made," Connolly says.
Her travels through Africa will determine which countries get laptops.
