A TIRELESS hunt for suspected ATM bombers resulted in the arrest of four suspects believed to have terrorised communities in a spate of robberies and ATM bombings in Gauteng and Balfour, Mpumalanga
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Loss Control and Tracing Task Team and SAPS Organised Crime wing over the weekend raided the George Goch Hostel, a flat in the Germiston CBD and an RDP house in Rondebult in pursuit of suspects.
Four male suspects were arrested and a police issue R5 Rifle and two unlicensed Norinco 9mm pistols were found.
Metro Police spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said: "I ntelligence work narrowed the search for these suspects to Ekurhuleni and the George Goch Hostel.
"The crackdown yielded the four suspects and the unlicensed firearms with more than 60 rounds of ammunition," said Kgasago.
The four suspects, aged between 25 and 32 years old, were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at various police stations in Ekurhuleni and Cleveland before being taken to Balfour by the Organised Crime Unit to investigate their link to crimes committed in Mpumalanga.
The suspects will then be hauled to a high risk facility in Gauteng, pending the finalisation of investigations.
l Meanwhile, three men were arrested in a raid at a suspected brothel at a hostel in Primrose.
Two of the suspects were also arrested for possession of cocaine and dagga.
Police said there were more than six women on the premises but no evidence of their alleged prostitution was found.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Germiston magistrate's court today.
