THE national strike by some 4500 employees of Rainbow Chickens has not had the full support of the majority of employees, the company has said.

"We have managed to continue with operations as normal, with minimal disruption," spokesperson Stephen Heaths said yesterday.

He said employees were demanding increases of 11,4percent and 14,9percent. They were also demanding reduced working hours, from a 45-hour week to a 40-hour week, without any reduction in pay, which equates to a further 10percent increase.

Heaths said the strike in KwaZulu-Natal was sadly marred by violence.
