He raped five women - and a child (8)

Serial rapist claimed he was a male prostitute and the victims were his 'clients'

A Muldersdrift serial rapist has been found guilty of six counts of rape, as well as theft and robbery, by the Krugersdorp Regional Court.

Shavani Phophi, 34, was found guilty of raping five women and an 8-year-old child and the attempted rape of a woman, all in the Muldersdrift area in Gauteng, said Brigadier Sally de Beer.

He was also found guilty on two counts of theft and three counts  of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Phophi was arrested in June 2010 and denied the charges.

“Despite Phophi’s ludicrous defence that he was a male prostitute  and the victims were his 'clients', good detective work and solid evidence proved to be his downfall,” De Beer said.

She said full judgement would be read out on Thursday, June 9.
