The reburial of King Zwelithini’s mother will close yet another chapter of inhuman suffering at the hands of the apartheid regime, the ANC said on Friday.
“This is a sign that the ANC led government is committed to the healing of our nation. This is in line with our vision of building better communities,” said KwaZulu-Natal spokesman Sihle Zikalala.
He said it took a painstaking process to carefully go through the archives of the eThekwini municipality to find the name of the late queen and to eventually find her remains at the Mayville cemetery.
She died in the 1950s.
“We call upon our people to go out in their numbers, in honour of Indlovukazi,” he said.
Queen Thomozile Jezangani KaNdwandwe Zulu would be reburied in Cato Manor on Saturday.
The SABC has reported that the reburial would cost the taxpayer R300 million, but the municipality denied this, saying the figure referred to the cost of a project, which includes the reburial and the establishment of a park, cultural centre and museum.
eThekwini municipality spokesman Thembinkosi Ngcobo said the cost was justified as the project would benefit the community and promote the Zulu nation
