Mbokazi tackles issues of marriage

COUPLES intending to get married can learn a lot from Durban businesswoman Zanele Mbokazi's book, which tackles issues that engaged couples should talk about and address before they say "I do".

Mbokazi is the founder of the first gospel awards, the Crown Gospel Awards, which comes just a few months before she walks down the isle with her Swazi sweatheart Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule in August.

The book is called: Before I say I do, which she believes will encourage couples to get married and stay in their marriages.

Mbokazi, who will get married for the second time after divorcing a few years ago, says the book is based on her experiences with lessons learnt from the mistakes of her past marriage.

Speaking at an interactive session, an event she hosted yesterday at the Durban SABC offices to touch base with some of the women whose stories are featured in the book, Mbokazi said she was very excited about the book simply because it is going to be a handy tool for couples.

Gagasi FM breakfast show host Gladys "Mamgo" Mgobhozi is one of the divorced women who attended the interactive session and whose experiences are featured in the book.

"Marriage is not only about love, but also about being happy and having space and courage to grow," she said.

Mbokazi said her research also showed that not all churches conducted pre-marriage counselling, which she said played a huge role once people were married.

Mbokazi worked on the book with Nkambule (her fiancé), whom she said contributed a male perspective and a biblical point of view to the issues addressed on the book.
