FORMER trustee of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, Jeremy Ractliffe, asked the Alexandra magistrate's court yesterday for an opportunity to talk to National Director of Public Prosecution Menzi Simelane.

Ractliffe, 64, is accused of being in possession of three uncut diamonds worth more than R25000 from September 1997 and August 2010.

The possession became public last year when model Naomi Campbell told the war crimes trial against former Liberian president Charles Taylor that she had given the diamonds she received as a gift in SA to Ractliffe.

Case resumes on March 30.
