LEBOGANG Maile, Gauteng's MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation, wants to sell the province as a film-making destination
Speaking at the legislature yesterday, Maile said: "An estimated 200 jobs are created through the production of a film at a cost of R200million. The National Film and Video Foundation estimates that if the film industry produces 15 to 20 films per annum, these jobs would be permanent."
Gauteng will bid to host the 2012 American Black Film festival "as part of exposing the Gauteng brand and infrastructure to international markets. We envisage that this will also see opportunities created for the local film industry".
The department is also erecting two monuments - the OR Tambo Memorial in Ekurhuleni and the Women's Monument in Tshwane - "as testimony of the work we are doing in overcoming the challenges of a society dominated by men", Maile said.
