'Bogus' docs case deferred

SIX alleged bogus doctors appeared briefly in the Middelburg magistrate's court in Mpumalanga

Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela said the six were remanded in custody until February 23 when it is expected that they would apply for bail.

He said a man who practised as a doctor in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, had not yet been arrested and was still on the run.

Yesterday, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said one of the "doctors" who worked at BJ Vorster Hospital in Kareedouw in Eastern Cape had passed a board examination required by the Health Professionals Council of South Africa.

However, Polela said the man's qualification was allegedly fake.
