He gave lover rape victim's G-string

A WHITE thong underwear and a cellphone belonging to one of multiple rape and murder accused Jack Mogale's victims led to his eventual capture.

Mogale's arrest, according to Captain Kgomotso Manthata, ended his alleged murderous streak. Mogale faces 61 counts including kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and rape.

Testifying before Judge Frans Kgomo, Manthata told the Johannesburg high court that the items were found in Mogale's shack in Waterworks informal settlement, west of Johannesburg, on the day of his arrest in March 27 2009.

The items belonged to the woman who underwent facial reconstructive surgery after Mogale allegedly repeatedly bashed her head with a brick before raping her and leaving her for dead on March 13 2009.

The woman testified that she regained consciousness 24 hours after the attack in Venterspost.

Manthata said he had met a Constable Mohlokwane to discuss the method of attack used in the cases she was investigating. She mentioned that a "white Golf" was involved in the incidents.

"Mohlokwane indicated that she knew a man who owned a similar car. She had been investigating a case of assault against him and he told her that he had recently bought a white Golf," she testified.

According to Manthata, Mohlokwane took her to Mogale's shack, where she saw the white Golf. However, the registration plates on the car were discovered to belong to a "black Polo".

Manthata, along with members of the dog unit, arrested Mogale at his home after finding the thong and cellphone. He was with a woman who said she did not know anything about the items.

"The woman in the house said the G-string was not hers but that the accused brought it home along with the cellphone," Manthata said.

When Mogale was arrested on the day, he was found with Charlotte Manaka, his live-in lover.

Manaka testified that on March 13 2009 Mogale came back home with a pair of earrings, a G-string and a blue woman's top.

"He said that he bought the items for me. He also brought a cellphone that he said he picked up outside a shop in Westonaria."

The couple met in April 2008.

Manaka will continue testifying today in the high court.
