Granny (85) and boy shot in hijacking

AN 85-year-old granny and her 9-year-old grandson are fighting for their lives in hospital after they were shot during a car hijacking in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg

The incident happened at Norkem Park about 6pm on Monday.

Police say the grandmother and four family members had just arrived home when they were attacked by two armed men.

Police spokesperson Constable Tebogo Sesing said the family members, who were travelling in a Mercedes Benz, were about to enter their garage when they were approached by the gunmen.

He said the grandmother was shot several times in the upper body and the boy was shot in the lower body.

"The suspects fled the scene in a taxi which broke down three streets away and they fled on foot."
