Anti-Malema youth structure disbanded

ANCYL president Julius Malema's allies in Limpopo have disbanded the Vhembe youth league's regional structure, which has been vocal against Malema since the chaotic Makhado conference in April.

The leader of the disbanded unit, Dogen Ndove, was summoned with his executive to a short party meeting in Polokwane last Thursday and told they were no longer regarded as leaders.

But sources said no further reason was provided to justify the disbandment of the structure, sending signals of a purge against anti-Malema supporters.

The move, according to party insiders, is aimed at paving the way for Malema in next year's party national elective conference.

The Ndove executive has always seen as antagonists of Malema and was threatening his political career since they supported former Limpopo youth league chairperson Lehlogonolo Masoga against Malema's allies.

Masoga was replaced by Malema's ally, France Moswane, in the conference that saw Malema's leadership threatened as he battled league members to support his endorsed candidates.

League provincial secretary Jacob Lebogo declined to comment on the removal of leadership in the affected region.

Another source in the region said Lebogo, a Malema ally, was abusing his powers by trying to remove members who were against Malema's bid for a second term. His term is due to end by next April.
