Woman and baby drown

TWO people, including a 7-month-old baby, drowned near Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said yesterday.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said in the first incident on Monday a nanny put the infant to bed and went to work in the garden.

The child crawled out of the house and drowned in a hole filled with water in the informal settlement.

In the second incident on the same day a woman was trying to rescue her child from drowning at Mazzepa Bay in Kentani. She rescued her child, but was herself swept away by strong waves.
