An alleged hitman who disappeared from a Vereeniging court after an adjournment two years ago appeared in court yesterday

Orlando Mandoza was granted bail of R5,000 in 2007 for the murder of Albert Mojapelo a day before he was to receive more than R1 million in retirement and pension payouts.

Investigating Officer Captain Fire Masilela was on a mission in Sudan.

"I was shocked," he said.

Mandoza's co-accused Sophie Mojapelo and Antoinette Masuku were sentenced to life imprisonment last September.

Mandoza was rearrested two weeks ago in Ekurhuleni.

He is expected back in court on January 31.
