Plane 'crash' just a drill

An exercise to test Emergency Services response time

Emergency Services today responded to a staged plane crash at OR Tambo International Airport, as part of an emergency drill. Eyewitness News reports.

Reports of a plane crash on the runway came early today and ambulances and emergency teams were called to the scene.

The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said this was not a real emergency but rather an exercise to test response time.

The simulation proved to be successful with all response teams arriving within the required time and sending regular updates to the airport's Emergency Control Centre.

NOTE TO READERS: Sorry about this - This was an Acsa thing - we also didn't know it was a drill
