POLICE are determined to squeeze criminals out of business this festive season.

National police spokesperson Colonel Vishnu Naidoo yesterday said they were confident that this year's crime fighting plan would turn the tables on criminals.

"We will squeeze the space for criminals. They can run but they can't hide. We will find them," Naidoo said.

Safer Festive Season: Operation Duty Calls was launched on Thursday. At least 145 people were arrested on the day for various crimes.

The anti-crime campaign will also leave no place to hide for tax evaders and illegal immigrants.

South African Revenue Service, Home Affairs, the metro police and court officials, among others, will form part of the specialised teams.

"Police will patrol on foot, horseback and motorbikes. There is no list of most or least wanted criminals.

"Anybody involved in criminal activities will be apprehended and removed from society," Naidoo said.
