Strike affects R12m luxury car theft trial

THE trial of the man accused of stealing cars worth R12million was yesterday postponed to next month because court interpreters and stenographers were not available due to the ongoing public service strike.

Magistrate George Andrews ordered Sello Jafta Mookang, above, to return to the Randburg magistrate's court on September 23.

Mookang was arrested on February 18 in a gold Mini Cooper - thought to be one of the vehicles he allegedly stole at a number of car dealerships around Johannesburg.

He was charged with motor vehicle theft after he was caught at a roadblock along Rivonia Road in Sandton, Johannesburg, with his girlfriend.

Mookang is alleged to have stolen and sold a number of luxury cars, among them an Audi A6, two BMWs and a sports utility vehicle.
