MANGOSUTHU University of Technology has appointed a new vice chancellor, says university chairperson Jerome Ngwenya.

Ngwenya said Dr Mashupye Kgaphola, former adviser in the office of the vice chancellor at the University of Johannesburg, will start duties on August 1.

Kgaphola has been the university's administrator after Professor Aaron Ndlovu was suspended. The university has seen several student protests recently.

Ngwenya said: "We hope that in the five years that Kgaphola is going to lead, he will be able to restore the university's good name."
