WORKING TOGETHER TO HELP THEMSELVES

A COMMUNITY development project that contributes immensely to inculcating brotherhood, unity and giving is being kept alive in Northern Cape.

A COMMUNITY development project that contributes immensely to inculcating brotherhood, unity and giving is being kept alive in Northern Cape.

Through the Community Builder of the Year Awards selfless and industrious individuals and groups were recognised and rewarded by Sowetan, the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation, SABC, Old Mutual, the Social Development Department and the people.

The project petered out due to a lack of sponsorship but the people did not give up. Those people will be honoured in Kimberley on July 23.

Qualifying projects should be unique, innovative and creative, lead to skills development and transfer, help to solve basic community needs and or problems.

They should not be linked to any political organisation or party, should inspire and encourage others to follow the example in community building, display sustainability and teamwork ethos.

The projects should also encourage a spirit of volunteerism and nation building by recognising and celebrating the contribution of individuals and groups to the upliftment of communities.

They should promote ubuntu, acknowledge community builders for outstanding work and sacrifice, recognise projects that uplift communities, encourage community members to uplift themselves in the same manner as these role models and encourage communities to be involved in their own development.
