Birds stick with solid Kobola

MOROKA Swallows have effected the one-season option right to retain solid defender Vincent Kobola, whose contract expired in June.

MOROKA Swallows have effected the one-season option right to retain solid defender Vincent Kobola, whose contract expired in June.

"I'm back at training and we are busy with the pre-season camp," said Kobola, who is said to be courted by a number clubs.

"I have been trying to negotiate with Swallows' management in the hope of securing a new contract with them.

"Since the issue has not been sorted out, I have decided to focus on the job at hand. That is to play soccer. I still have a dream of playing for Bafana Bafana," Kobola said.

Meanwhile, the Dube Birds have once again been invited to take part in the yearly Old Mutual Cup in Botshabelo, Free State, on August 1.

Other clubs who will take part are Free State Stars, Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic.

Celtic won the competition last season after defeating Mpumalanga Black Aces 3-1 in the final.

Stars brand manager Rantsi Mokoena said: "We are excited to be part of this tournament and are looking forward to doing well.

"We will be using this tournament to assess our readiness for the 2010/2011 season. We are tightening up all departments to ensure that we challenge for the championship."

On other hand, Celtic have signed forward Nathan Paulse from Swedish team Hammerby IF on a one-season loan deal.

Paulse played for Ajax Cape Town on a loan agreement last season.
