Doc Khumalo was drunk, cop tells court

A POLICE officer testifying in the drunk driving case of former Kaizer Chiefs star Doctor Khumalo said the legend was uncooperative when he was arrested.

Johannesburg Metro police officer Steven Molise was testifying in the Roodepoort magistrate's court yesterday.

He said Khumalo was talking too much and police had to beg him to draw his blood.

"He was drunk. I could smell liquor in his breath," said Molise.

He said Khumalo's speech was incoherent. "It was not the first time I had dealt with a drunk person. You can see if someone is drunk."Molise said Khumalo's blood was eventually drawn at about 6.10am at Flora Clinic.

Khumalo is facing charges of drunken, reckless and negligent driving after he was involved in an accident near the Maraisburg Road off-ramp in Johannesburg in May 2008.

He allegedly collided with a taxi carrying three women to work. One of them was eight months pregnant. There were no fatalities.

Molise said from what he saw at the accident scene, Khumalo's BMW had hit the taxi on its rear.

The case continues next week.
