Saru backs women for World Cup

SOUTH African Rugby Union president Oregan Hoskins says Saru is fully behind the SA women's rugby team as they prepare for the IRB Women's Rugby World Cup in England from August 20 to September 5.

SOUTH African Rugby Union president Oregan Hoskins says Saru is fully behind the SA women's rugby team as they prepare for the IRB Women's Rugby World Cup in England from August 20 to September 5.

Hoskins visited the players at their training camp at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth at the weekend to give them moral support. The camp started on Thursday and ended on Sunday.

Hoskins pledged Saru's support for the team, adding that the controlling body and provincial structures were committed to the development of women's rugby.

"South Africa has a proud history of fighting against any form of inequality and discrimination. It is time we take up the cause of promoting and developing women's rugby in a much more serious way," said the Saru boss.

"Coach Denver Wannies and his management team are doing a sterling job to get the players in the best possible shape for the World Cup and we are all rallying behind them," said the Saru boss.

The squad will have one more training camp.
