Komphela in limbo at Plat Stars

PLATINUM Stars remain in limbo while the Royal Bafokeng board decides whether to uphold Steve Komphela's ousting, or to appoint a new coach for the embattled team.

PLATINUM Stars remain in limbo while the Royal Bafokeng board decides whether to uphold Steve Komphela's ousting, or to appoint a new coach for the embattled team.

Stars team manager Obed Legobate said yesterday that they were hoping to know by the end of this week whether Komphela would be retained or whether someone new would take over the coaching duties at the Phokeng-based outfit. In the meantime, Komphela's former assistant David Vilakazi and Willem Jackson have taken over tactical duties since pre-season training commenced on June 29.

Komphela was dismissed from Stars two weeks ago, with a statement signed by general manager Jason Raine proclaiming the parting as "amicable".

This claim was denied by Komphela, and a picture of turmoil started to emerge, with Bafokeng king Leruo Molotlegi entering the fray, and ordering an investigation into Komphela's firing.

Komphela's legal representative Tim Sukazi said: "We have heard nothing from the team yet. This matter is still a work in progress."
