KWAZULU-NATAL police are appealing to members of the community to come forward and identify a body that was found on Ridge Road near Overport in Durban.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said police did not know the cause of the man's death. The body was found on June 18 and the man was in his 40s.

Mdunge downplayed the possibility of foul play. He said it was difficult to identify the man because no personal belongings were found on him.

"We suspect the man died of natural causes, whether by collapsing or freezing to death," Mdunge said.

"Our efforts to contact relatives or family members have been in vain, therefore, we call on the public to assist us."

He said he was worried because no family had contacted police to report a missing person.

If no one claimed the body they would ask the court to intervene and conduct a state burial.

Anyone with information should contact investigating officer Constable Protus Themba Ngwenya during work hours on 031-312-2345.
