Amla in line for six awards

IT LOOKS as if 2010 is the year Hashim Amla has come of age as a cricketer.

IT LOOKS as if 2010 is the year Hashim Amla has come of age as a cricketer.

A record six nominations in the 2010 SA Cricket Awards illustrates just what a year the Durban-based Protea has had.

Overlooked for the World Twenty20 in the West Indies earlier this year, Amla's form in the one-day series that followed - which the Protea's won 5-0 - was sublime.

Scores of 102, 92, 34, 129 and 45 illustrate just what a consistent batsman he is.

In the Test series that followed, which SA won 2-0, Amla's form was once again consistent. The talented right-handed batsman has 45 Test matches under his belt with a batting average of 46.

His one-day international record is event more impressive - 27 matches with an average of 57.

The quietly spoken Amla has been nominated in the following categories: SA Cricketer of the Year, SA Players' Player of the Year, CSA Fans' Cricketer of the Year, KFC "So Good!" Award, CSA Test Cricketer of the Year and Standard Bank One-Day International Cricketer of the Year.

Other players nominated for various awards include Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn, AB de Villiers, Herschelle Gibbs, Rusty Theron and Colin Ingram.

The awards will be held in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
