NORTH West public safety MEC Howard Yawa yesterday conveyed his condolences to the families and friends of five people who died in a head-on collision involving a sedan and bakkie near Makwassie.
The accident happened on the Wolmaranstad-Makwassie Road at 9.30pm on Sunday. Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free the bodies of the driver and two passengers from the wreckage of the Ford Bantam bakkie, which had been coming from Makwassie towards Wolmaranstad.
A passenger from the sedan died after he was thrown out of the vehicle while its driver was trapped inside and burned to ashes when it caught fire.
