BANGLADESH won the second one-day international against England in Bristol by five runs on Saturday to record a first victory over England in any format.

But it was not the first time Bangladesh had upset the form book. At the 1999 World Cup, the Tigers beat Pakistan by 62 runs at Northampton in England.

Bangladesh had made 223 for nine wickets, with Saqlain Mushtaq taking five wickets for 35 runs. They then skittled Pakistan for 161, with Khaled Mahmud taking three wickets for 31.

This victory helped catapult Bangladesh to Test status and came during a tournament debut.

Medium-pacer Mahmud sparked a collapse as Pakistan, already through to the second round, slumped to 43 for five. But soon afterwards match-fixing allegations surfaced. - Sapa-AFP
