Pillay is the third influential member to quit, after Hendrick Ramaala and James Evans.

Sowetan could not get hold of Pillay, but it is understood that among her gripes is ASA's insistence that several youngsters must re-qualify for the World Junior Championships in Canada later this month.

A senior athlete, who asked not to be named said: "Senior athletes are angry that ASA wants several youngsters to re-qualify despite having met all the requirements.

"I have been informed that some of the parents are threatening to take legal action against the ASA after their children were left out of the Canada-bound team despite having qualified. Don't be surprised to hear of more interim board members resigning in the next few days. The sooner we have a democratically elected board, the better for the sport."

ASA interim administrator Ray Mali confirmed the resignation of Pillay, who is now involved in the development of sprinters in Tshwane.

"Geraldine has resigned as a board member. She did not state her reasons. That's all I can tell you on this matter," he said.

Evans was the first to resign in February after complaining about the way the ASA interim board is running the sport.

Ramaala, who was tipped to take over the ASA presidency, felt the sport was going nowhere as long as all the stakeholders were not consulted.
