WITH barely a year in the music industry, Abafana BakaDlala, an exciting maskandi group has made a name for itself.
The group, that is made up of 19 members, dropped its debut Umsila Wenja last year that is currently enjoying massive airplay in all provinces.
In the past two months Abafana BakaDladla have become favourites in this genre. The group that was discovered by the Dladla brothers Stanley and Paul is known for an energetic and agitated stage performance. The composition and melodies on their album confirm that Abafana have a future in the local music industry.
That is not all. Since the release of their album, the group has been touring all provinces. Now they are exploring new markets in neighbouring countries. On July 24, they will be dazzling at Enhlangano townhall in Swaziland.
The event is organised by Swaziland Arts and Music Association.
Abafana BakaDladla will share the stage with groups such as Sgwebo Sentambo, Buzwebethu, Abafana Basemawosi, Mzansi Zulu Dancers, Ubuhle Bamasiko, Lodanda, Mshikishi, Step by Step, Duma and Masithulele.
Stanley, the producer, says: "I think we came up with a sound that people want. The group has done amazingly well considering the maskandi league is very tight."
Dladla is to scout for talent in Swaziland.
"As someone who wants to expand the company, the event will give me an opportunity to look at new talent. We hope to record and release Swazi musicians. Our aim is to expose local people to Swaziland traditional cultural music. We won't just sign any group, we will look for quality."
