URUGUAY coach Oscar Tabarez has pointed the finger at the English media for the constant abuse of his star forward, Luis Suarez.

URUGUAY coach Oscar Tabarez has pointed the finger at the English media for the constant abuse of his star forward, Luis Suarez.

The Ajax Amsterdam striker was the subject of boos from the 36000 fans who had braved the harsh weather conditions to witness Germany's 3-2 win against Uruguay in the third place playoff at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

"The English press has certainly ignited the fire on that incident. What he did can happen to any player, " Tabarez said.

He said given the manner in which Ghana, Africa's last hope in the tournament, bowed out, he understood why people felt aggrieved.

Tabarez praised South Africa for hosting a successful World Cup, despite pessimists' negative comments about the country's readiness to host the event.

"I have nothing but praise for South Africa for doing a marvelous job. Many things were said and the country was criticised before the tournament even started and I am glad everything went well."
