University students worldwide are concerned with globalisation and sustainability, but fewer than half believe their education has prepared them to address these issues, according to a study released yesterday.

"Students describe a gap in this generation's training to cope with issues so complex and interconnected, but a strong belief that information technologies can bridge the gap," IBM said.

The study, conducted through IBM's institute for business value, was based on the views of 3600 students in more than 40 countries.

IBM said the study showed that students, who grew up in the digital age, would learn more data analysis than on gut instinct or existing best practices to reach their goals as future business leaders.

Despite the economic environment, the study showed that students had an optimistic outlook about what lay ahead and their capacity to change the world. - Sapa
